Today, I had an interesting lunch with a 27 year old whom I’ve met and talked to just once, whom perhaps will prove to me over time that we can be great friends despite the gap. Albeit the strangeness, it’s second nature for me to hold a conversation as I would for someone I’ve known for years. What I’ve learnt from him is that even in your late 20s, when you think your life is all put together - it might be otherwise. Approaching his 30s, he just got out of a relationship and personally I’d be emotionally immobilized to realize at that age that I’ve been investing in the wrong soulmate all along. At that point in life when everything else stabilizes enough for you to settle, but you realize you don’t know really know the person you’re about to spend the next few decades with. He taught me strength, that even if you’ve spent half your life in any pursuit - be it academic, romantic, self-fulfilling - when it crumbles, you’ve to just start all over again regardless of the timeplan you originally had in mind. In my opinion, my inner spark would die if I had to let go of my soulmate at age 27 and restart my priorities. That’s crazy.

Well, a lunch well spent that got me thinking indeed. I’ve just stepped into adulthood and I’m dead afraid on making mistakes or investing time and effort into anything that isn’t concrete, or that which doesn’t promise commitment. But I’ll let go a little, better to fuck up now than later on in life.

i’ve learnt that i don’t have it in me anymore to fight for justice or to clear my name. if someone has wronged me, the onus is on them to acknowledge it instead of expecting a smile in their face. if this occurred a year or two back, i would’ve raised hell but now i can’t be arsed to make anyone that crossed my path weep.

this silence doesn’t reflect defeat, it’s simply easier to treat that which introduces toxicity in my life as nonexistent. this silence is more akin to a dormant volcano that waits for the villagers to populate, to bask in their short-lived luck before it turns active.

i don’t believe the ring of karma will drop down over those who hurt you with the intent to constrict them on your behalf. it will simply hover over and you have to trust that someday the person will stumble into the ring themselves amid a struggle to escape their conscience.
